What Is a Faucet Aerator, and Does My Faucet Have One?

Last updated on Jan 03, 2026

A faucet aerator is the small, round piece screwed onto the tip of your faucet that controls water flow and reduces splashing. Most bathroom faucets have aerators.

đź’ˇFilterbaby fits 99% of faucets with a round aerator tip!

Most Common Types of Aerators:

  • Cache/Hidden Aerators: Recessed inside the faucet tip. You'll need the special removal key that is included in your Filterbaby Faucet Filter kit.

  • Standard Aerators: Visible on the outside of the faucet tip. These are usually removable by hand, but you may need a wrench.

But does my faucet have a round aerator?

Likely, yes! Look at your faucet tip. If you have a round circular piece at the tip where the water comes out, it is the aerator. If water comes out in a steady, controlled stream (not a harsh spray), you likely have an aerator.

Incompatible Faucet Types:

  • Rectangular or square aerators

  • Waterfall/spout style faucets

  • Pull-out hose faucets (kitchen faucets)

  • Sensor faucets

  • Faucets with no aerator at all
